A former Weston under Penyard Primary School pupil and John Kyrle High School student has been recognised for his outstanding achievements since joining the Army.

Among the New Year Army Honours was Kieran Warboys, of Weston under Penyard, who was awarded the prestigious Commander Field Army’s Commendation for above and beyond service. Kieran's award was for his charity work, fundraising efforts and youth work. He was a volunteer youth worker at Ross Baptist Church before joining the army and continued to return home and help out on Friday nights for several years.Kieran’s family are very proud of his dedication.

His mum, Lindsay Jane, told the Ross Gazette: “Kieran has always wanted to be in the Army”.

After leaving school, Kieran joined the 1st Royal Artillery after completing his basic training and has been based down at Tidworth Garrison near Salisbury.

During his five years in the artillery he was promoted several times, with his most recent promotion to Bombardier (corporal).

Last year, he got married on August 4th.

Lindsay told the Ross Gazette: “Kieran being Kieran very modestly brushes it off saying he was ‘only doing his job like everyone else’. Other than his official phone call telling him he has the award, we have not been given any further information as to when it will be presented or what exactly he did other than the army notice that was published.”

A spokesperson for the 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery said: “We are extremely pleased to announce further honours and awards recognising soldiers for their above and beyond service.”
