PEOPLE visiting Ross-on-Wye will be able to park for free for up to 30 minutes as Herefordshire Council launches its new ‘Pop and Shop’ scheme.

However, motorists will have to claim a free 30-minute parking ticket and display in their vehicle at all council-operated pay and display car parks and on-street pay and display bays across the county.

The initiative is designed to make quick trips into local towns easier and more convenient, helping residents pop into shops, cafés, chemists and services while supporting high streets and independent businesses.

To claim the free parking period, drivers simply need to enter their vehicle registration number at the pay and display machine, collect a ticket and display it in their vehicle.

New keypad machines, which vary across the county, have been installed across council parking locations to support the scheme and ensure the free parking offer can be used easily and fairly, however the scheme is not available via the JustPark app.

Herefordshire Council’s cabinet member for roads and regulatory services, Cllr Barry Durkin said: “Pop and Shop is about making it easier for people to make quick visits into our town centres.

“Whether you’re picking up something from a local shop, calling in for a coffee or running a quick errand, the free 30-minute parking period gives people the flexibility to pop in and out.

“The scheme will also support the county’s business community by increasing the turnover of parking spaces and bringing more customers into town centres, helping local businesses benefit from a steady flow of shoppers throughout the day.”

The scheme will operate across all Council-operated pay and display locations, both in car parks and on-street bays.
