Dear Editor,
The Recycling Centre (open on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays) is a town amenity. Is it amenable? I surely cannot be alone in despairing at the woeful inadequacies in relation to the running of this site. Severn Waste should be ashamed.
I attempted to take some rubbish to the site on Sunday, but had to turn back as the queue of cars stretched all the way down to Morrisons and beyond, causing mayhem.
A second attempt was made later and this time I did make it as far as the site. All the various containers were closed, and as I had items which had to be separated (their rules, not mine) I asked where I should put them. I was told to chuck them in the Landfill skip.
I had gardening waste, cardboard, et cetera. I am not sure why we have a raft of new faces running the show as it worked a lot better before. In attempt to “manage” the traffic, one of the entry lanes is closed.
One employee was directing traffic on the site. This was accompanied by a furrowed brow and comments such as “We will fit you in as soon as we can, we weren’t expecting it to be this busy” Time and time again. Has he not heard of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’?
I visit the site on a regular basis and this scenario is all too frequent. Perhaps if there are “too many people using the site” consideration should be given into opening the site for more than the present three days. I went at approximately 3.45pm (for the second time) and when I commented about the size of the queues and the waiting time, I was just told it was unexpectedly busy. Hardly a true statement when it is always this busy on a Sunday.
There was still a backlog of cars and I was cheerfully informed that the gates would be ‘closed on them at 4 o’clock’. How this is an efficient recycling operation is beyond me. This really is a rubbish service in every sense of the word.
