Having completed the Offa’s Dyke walk in September under the banner of Manes and Tails Fundraising for Animal Welfare, Sue Hughes and Chris Lloyd are pleased that they have been able to raised £3,015 which will go to the ‘HungryHerds Ladies’ to help with the cost of the winter feed for ponies on Gelligaer Common.
The feed cost for carrying this out is approximately £12,000 per winter and this donation will go part way to achieving the amount required.
Sue and Chris are extremely grateful to everyone who so kindly donated from Monmouthshire and Ross and thos who supported them along the way.
They had an amazing journey through wonderful countryside uphill and down with scenery that was breath taking, from the highest point of Moel Famau in North Wales, to crossing the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen to our own local view of Tintern Abbey from Devils Pulpit.
They were met in Chepstow at the end of 12 days of walking by some of the HungryHerds Ladies, other members of Manes & Tails and also the Patron of Manes & Tails Mr Dylan Matthews of The Celtic Manor Resort.
Following on from the walk, Manes & Tails had a stand at the Usk Show selling second hand tack, saddlery of all kinds and numerous horse rugs.
The sale of these many items made another £752 to be forwarded to HungryHerds Ladies. “A very successful few days” said Sue.
