As the Ross Gazette was going to press on Tuesday afternoon an explosion followed by a fire led to a catastrophic power failure in Ross and nearly caused the Ross Gazette to miss its print slot. It would have been the first time in its history if it had failed to appear on the news stand.

Most of Broad Street was hit by the power failure and shops and cafés closed early.
