A cheque for £1,000 was handed to the Ross-on-Wye Community First Responders last week. The donor wishes to remain anonymous but he made this generous contribution to the scheme because he read about it in the Ross Gazette.

Earlier this year, the man, who has lived in Ross-on-Wye for a long time, was taken seriously ill with a pulmonary thrombosis. Whilst his wife was speaking to the ambulance control, the Community First Responders arrived. They provided him with the oxygen he needed to get to hospital. The man is extremely grateful that his life was saved that day.

However, he thought they worked as part of the NHS until he read an article in the Ross Gazette which made it clear that they are volunteers. He said he could not believe that his life was saved due to the kindness of these volunteers and he wanted to do something to thank them.
