As well as being a tasty treat flipping pancakes can also be great fun. This year Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday, as it is traditionally known, falls on Tuesday, February 9th, and once again there will be a special event in Ross-on-Wye to mark the occasion.

You can use the entry form in the Ross Gazette to take part, or more forms can be collected from Tudor Sweets, Essential Sewing Services, Little Chic, One Stop, Made in Ross or Burger Star.

A separate form is needed for each individual who is taking part. Completed forms can be returned to Tudor Sweets, Essential Sewing Services or Little Chic.

There will also be an opportunity to register on the day at a stand in the Market Place from 10.30am.

Races will start at 2.30pm and continue until 4.30pm, with the children’s races taking place later to allow time for them to join the fun after school.

Entrants need to bring their own frying pan although pancakes will be supplied. Fancy dress or just chef’s hats or aprons are encouraged and there will be certificates for those winning races as well as a small prize for all the children taking part.

All the races have been sponsored so there will be some great prizes to win too. The sponsors are;

Under 5s - Field Fayre

Age 6-9s - Tudor Sweets

Age 10 - Truffles

Traders – Daz Taxis

Men’s- Parry’s Property

Women’s - Morris Bricknell

Grandparents’ - Essential Sewing Services

Joint organisers, SHYPP will be holding a bake sale under the Market House, at the same time as the races, to raise funds for refurbishing their community room.

Anyone who would like to donate any more prizes or could help steward should contact Councillor Hannah Lerego on 01989 762164 or email pancake [email protected]
