Glenn Scott, an 18 year old disabled athlete, who regularly spends weekends at Symonds Yat, has been shortlisted to carry the Olympic torch in 2012.

Glenn was born with a condition called Talipes, or club feet. His mum, told the Ross Gazette that his feet were actually on back to front. He had to have a lot of operations as a youngster but he loved sport and was spotted at a Team GB paralympics event and joined their development programme. He has participated in, and won, regional and national championships competiting against other double amputees.

Glenn recently successfully retained his 100m and 200m titles at the Nationwide Junior Disabled Championships. This national competition took place at Preston university. Pursuing a sporting dream is expensive so Glenn and his family were thrilled that Chris and Kay Reader, who run the Symonds Yat Canoe Hire Company once again sponsored Glenn. Chris and Kay have known Glenn for years as he often helps at their canoe hire company.

Glenn's parents have a permanent pitch at the Symonds Yat Caravan Park and after work they drive down from their home in Bromsgrove to spend the weekend there. Glen started helping out at the canoe hire company when he was 13 and has worked with Chris every weekend.

Glenn is ambitious and had hopes of participating in the 2012 Paralympic Games alongside his hero Oscar Pistorius.

However changes to their selection process means it is unlikely but his coaches say if he keeps improving he will be a certainty for the 2016 event.

In the meantime he is hopeful that he will be called on to carry the Olympic torch.
