ROSS Rowing Club's 2009 season
started well with the Performance
squad of the Junior Academy achieving
success at Dorney lake on January
25th in the Marlow spring head time
trial.
The performance of the day was
from Amy Surman and Ellie Grindle,
who rowed a year above their age
group in Women's J14 double sculls.
They won this event by a clear 30 seconds,
and even more impressively
beat most of the WJ15 crews and
many other more experienced and
older combinations.
Coach Robin Fletcher said: "This
was a terrific row, Amy and Ellie
developed terrific boat speed, and we
know we can develop this further as
training progress over the next couple
of months".
The women's J15 squad all rowed
in single sculls over the course, the
top result going to Kelly Morris who
came third in a highly competitive
field.
The scullers were competing
over the Olympic course and the
coaches were looking to see which
of the squad were showing early
signs of promise as the group heads
towards West Midland trails and
national Schools events.
