Mandy Robinson, Great Aunt of five-year-old, Oscar Saxelby Lee, who is suffering with a rare form of leukaemia, was thrilled that a fund-raising event she organised at a Ross-on-Wye pub has helped to raise £2,000 to help his family, but was even more delighted to learn that Oscar is now responding to treatment.
And on Monday, March 25th, Mandy was able to deliver a very special gift for Oscar to the room is he is in at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. One of the items donated to her fundraising appeal was a Landrover Defender, donated by BG Landrovers and Britpart, to be auctioned at the Prince of Wales Quiz Night. Local resident, Lynette Foxwell, won the bidding but then she gifted the pedal car to Oscar. Mandy managed to get it in her car and take it the hospital on Monday. She could not get it in the car park lift so had to struggles down several flights of stairs before finally handing it to the delighted Oscar.
She said he was not having a very good day, the Chemotherapy is making him very sick and tired but he loved his new car and was able to drive it for a little while.
Oscar had not initially responded to the chemotherapy but he was put a much higher intensity dose and is now responding. Mandy said that this means that if a match is found the transplant can go ahead. She said that this is the best news possible at the moment, “we are all so thrilled for Oscar and his Mum and Dad, Jamie and Olivia.”See the full story in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
