The Avenue was again bathed in sunshine for the visit of Crickhowell on Saturday afternoon. Goodrich were looking to build on last week's victory and avenge their season opening Marches cup final defeat to the Welshmen.
The ever reliable Andy Brown again won the toss, and having looked around the dressing room at his pasty team decided two and half hours in the baking heat would do their skin complexions no harm, so with sun cream applied the Goodrich XI trotted out to field.
Tidy opening spells from Bradford and O'Brien, each picking up a wicket, put Goodrich on top and backed up by another good team fielding performance meant that boundaries were as rare as an MP using his own credit card.
Goodrich welcomed back Rufus "Old Man" Davies for his first spell of league bowling this season, and his four wickets, including the dangerous Nick Francis who scored 29, had Crick on the rack.
Rich "One Wicket" Bastable again bowled superbly, 12 overs for 26 runs, and finally picked up his first wicket for the club with three balls remaining in his allotted overs when Brown took a solid catch at long off. A further wicket from Bradford and a run out from Griffiths meant that the visitors finished 158 for 9 off 45 overs.
After a week's absence Sarah Evans returned to make tea much to the delight of "The Cat" , so much so that he shouldered arms to a straight one and trudged off to tuck into seconds.
This brought Andy "One Shot" Brown to the crease and for the second week running he bludgeoned the bowling attack for 70 quick runs to take Goodrich in sight of victory. Goodrich comfortably reached the victory margin with three wickets down and over ten overs to spare thanks to contributions from Seymour (21), Griffiths (31 not out) and O'Brien (22 not out).
For the hundreds of supporters reading this, Goodrich will now be offering your chance to wear the castle crest. The club kit technician Phillip Evans will be placing orders for GCC Polo shirts, Baseball caps and Replica Playing shirts to anyone who wishes to purchase them.
