GOODRICH Cricket Club 1st XI eased to a simple victory against Woolhope on Saturday, June 19th, in the Marches League Division 1.

Captain Brown won the toss and asked Woolhope to bat. The decision to bowl first paid dividends instantly; with M Bradford picking up a wicket in the first over. This was swiftly followed by wickets for his opening partner J O'Brien.

Between the two openers they ripped the heart out of the Woolhope innings leaving them at 16 for 6 at one point. This brought W Green and M Slocombe together and they managed to see off the Goodrich openers. Bradford finished his 12 overs with 3 for 26 and O'Brien finished his 10 overs with 3 for 31.

They were replaced by J Griffiths and A Evans and sensing blood they took their opportunities and displaced Green (17) and Slocombe (35) in successive overs.

Apart from P Watkins (13), who put up spirited resistance, the rest of the Woolhope team folded like the openers. Griffiths finished his spell with 2 for 35 off 6 and Evans finished with 2 for 11 off 4 overs. The Woolhope innings finished on 110.

After an upbeat tea Goodrich came out to complete the game quickly.

Openers S Griffiths (47) and R Lord (47 no) dismissed everything that was thrown at them. The only blemish was the late dismissal of Griffiths but this allowed the skipper A Brown (11no) to finish off the game.

Next week Goodrich will be at home to high flying Bosbury, which should prove to be a much sterner test.

Goodrich will however, be hoping to carry on with this form for the rest of the season.
