Thanks to funding from the Ross Town Council, Age Concern Ross hosted another successful blanket testing Day at Ross Fire Station.

In partnership with the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Fire Service, and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Age UK, 30 older people got their electric blankets tested.

Fifty percent of the blankets brought along failed, showing the importance of the service, and those that did fail got a free replacement blanket.

The Fire Service were also available to give useful information about home safety checks that they offer, adding to the value of the day.

Age Concern is also very grateful to Libby Look, who has chosen to give two days voluntary service to Age Concern Ross. The time is thanks to a scheme run by Libby’s employer, Farmplan, where their employees get two days a year to volunteer.

She had already completed one day in the office, calling older people who are isolated in the community, and then her second day was spent completing the admin at the blanket testing day.

Age Concern Ross aims to provide information and services to keep older people in the community safe and well.
