Madam, As many of your readers know, I have been an active supporter for Guide Dogs for the Blind for many years, firstly just helping but for the past 18 years actually running the Ross-on-Wye Branch.

During all that time I have had wonderful support from Ross residents and raised several hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Lately I have been told about a Guide Dog owner and her partner selling raffle tickets in and around Ross, purportedly to be "raising funds to pay for her Guide Dog". All Guide Dog owners have to pay the princely sum of 50p – yes – Fifty Pence for their dog and Guide Dogs pay all the veterinary fees and, if necessary, the food bills.

I would just like everyone to know that this couple are nothing to do with the Ross Branch and have never approached us, even to inform us of their proposed activities, and therefore do not have our support.

Sandie Cotterell, Ross
