Ross CC 1st XI played hosts to Hanley Castle and Upton CC on Saturday in their latest Worcestershire County Cricket League Division 4 South fixture.
Losing the toss for the fifth week in succession Ross were asked to bat in ideal weather conditions.
Unfortunately, the season long problem of inconsistency was again apparent as the Ross batsmen contrived to throw wickets away at every available opportunity against a very young, but keen, Hanley attack. Harry King (22), Gabriel Warwick (17), Bruno Warwick (12) and Jack Evans (10) were the only batsmen to reach double figures as Ross slumped to 108 all out in the 31st over. For Hanley, Rob Williams finished with figures of (9.3-1-25-5) and young Will St. Leger-Chambers returned (6-1-15-3).
In an effort to make amends, Ross took to the field in determined fashion, with Andrew Bevan (12-3-28-2) having some early success and James Tiffen (5-0-24-1) taking a wicket with his first ball. However, sensible batting by Rory Mathews (31) and a match winning 5th wicket partnership between Tristan Robinson (30 not out) and Rob Williams (21 not out) saw the visitors home in the 33rd over. Ross now need to regroup and show a lot more application in their next match away at Harvington in an effort to start climbing the table again.
