Ten-year-old Hannah Bennett from Ross-on-Wye had more than twelve inches chopped off her long, dark locks at The Cutting Shop, on Tuesday, June 14th, and donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a local charity which makes wigs for children who have lost their hair through illness.
Hannah was joined by her mum, Karen, her dad Neil, both of her grandmothers, as well as a family friend, who were all eager to support her in having her first ever major hair cut. They all glowed with pride, and video called more friends and family, so they could witness Hannah do a lovely thing for a Herefordshire-based charity.
Karen told the Ross Gazette that while Hannah had trims, she had never had a drastic re-style. Her group of supporters were stunned by how grown up she looked, and agreed that her new style really suited her.
In addition to donating her hair to the cause, Hannah has also raised £387, through friends and family sponsoring her for the cut.
Hannah was very pleased with her new style, and excited to show her friends and teachers at school.
Hannah explained that she knew someone through the Baptist Church, where her father is the Reverend, who had donated their hair to the Little?Princess Trust. She added that she felt drawn to the charity, not only because it is a local one, but she shares her name with the original Little Princess, Hannah Tarplee.
Hannah Tarplee’s parents set up the Little Princess Trust in 2006 after their daughter died of Cancer the previous year.
She had loved wearing her wig, especially on special occasions, and her mum and dad had wanted to do something to help other families with children who had lost their hair, due to the effects of cancer treatment or other illness.
