Gill Davis, along with her husband Nigel, started up the monthly Lea Café a year ago this October.

Initially, the idea was to help with combatting loneliness, but the Café has grown into much more than that. It is now a place where all Lea villagers can pop in to catch up with their neighbours, while enjoying coffee and home-made cakes along with borrowing books or puzzles, and gift-swaps. It is totally free to all Lea residents.

Gill said: “The Lea Café always like to emphasise that villagers of all ages are most welcome, so it was a lovely surprise when we had two locals who turned up at the same time to join our celebration who we believe to be the oldest and youngest residents living in our village.”

Visitor, Peggy Laws, is 97 years old and Robin Smillie had been delivered by his father, Chris, in the car while driving mum, Rachel, to the hospital just three days before his visit to the Lea Café.

If you live in the Lea, do feel free to visit anytime. Gill and Nigel promise that you will be made very welcome.

It’s always open on the first Wednesday of each month, between 10am and 12pm at the Lea Village Hall.
