Pokemon mania was a huge part of life for many youngsters growing up in the 1990s, collecting trading cards and spending their pocket money on toys and Pokemon themed items. Now the craze is back, but it has been updated for 2016 and is available as a smartphone app – Pokemon Go.

Although officially launched today, many people have already been able to download the app. Users take to the streets to hunt for the hundreds of ’monsters’ scattered across real-life locations similar to the original Pokemon games and TV series.

The idea is to get people out and about walking in different locations, and many people have already been spotted trying to catch them in prominent buildings such as churches or in parks.

Facebook groups for communities who want to share their Pokemon finds have also appeared.
