Twenty year-old Josh Adams, defied all the odds when he completed a

hat-trick of major trophy wins, in three successive competitions, at

His latest victory, winning the Traders Cup, which 123 members

contested, means that Josh becomes a single-figure, 9 handicapper,

which is quite an achievement.

Another Club Trophy, the Collins Flag is the next trophy to be played

for, and who would back against him making it four in a row!

Josh was once again a model of consistency. He patiently put together

his gross 78 medal score, net 68, to earn him the Trophy outright

from runner-up Brian Macnamara, whose gross 75, net 70, round, the

lowest gross score in Handicap Division 1, was also a fine

performance. Brian, a 5 handicapper must have considered himself

unfortunate to have found Josh in such remarkable form.

Richard Brough also enjoyed a net 70 round, and Chris Harvey and Mark

Ford, with net 71s, will have been pleased with their scores, as will

another highly consistent performer, 19 year old Nick Ellis who had a

net 72.

In Handicap Division 2, Nigel Gibbs with a net 72 finished top of the

results table, just getting the better on count-back from Bob Cooper.

Bob's gross 91, net 72 score, which included a 9, made him the lowest

gross score performer in his division. Ross C Team Skipper Bob Timms,

with a net 76, claimed the third spot.

There was a runaway winner in the second round of the Ross Seniors'

Layton Cup, in which 78 Seniors took part. Mike Harris put together a

particularly impressive 42 points stableford score in difficult

scoring conditions, as evidenced by the fact that the runner-up, Roy

Crane, was 4 points adrift with 38 points. He was followed by Jeff

Oates with 37 points, and Bill Castle, Trevor Flowers, and Terry

Hopson, all with 36 points each.

In Handicap Division 1 Tim Rigden and Brian Ingram found themselves

sharing top spot with 37 points each, Tim just getting the edge on

count-back. Next came Brian Clouder and Nick Swan with 33 points each.

On the Seniors Open Front, Alan Bebb's 35 points total took the eye

and the top prize at Lydney Golf Club's Seniors Open event, Alan also

claimed a nearest the pin prize and his golfing pal, Brian MacNamara

brought home the prize for the longest drive of the day.

In the Club's latest friendly matches, the first win of the Season

for the Ross C team under the capable stewardship of skipper, Bob

Timms, was the main talking point. ?His squad entertained and

completed a 3.5 points to 2.5 victory to inflict a rare defeat upon

their counterparts from the Monmouth Golf Club. For Ross the point-

scorers were Bob Timms and Stewart Jones, Eric Stephens and Brian

Clouder, David Thrower and John Eyers, while Robin Henderson-Pugh and

Richard Kimp enjoyed a halved match result. Richard Escolme and Steve

Phillips, and Nick Swan and Nigel Gibbs had to settle for being

second best on the day.

Terry Jarrett's Ross B Team squad took part in an enjoyable afternoon

when they visited the Herefordshire Club, at Wormsley, and a 4.5

points to 1.5 points defeat was the final outcome. Terry and his

partner Geoff Thomas set a marvellous example in winning the opening

fourball 3/1 for Ross. Danny Gear and Dave Ruff achieved a half-

point, but those unable to contribute to the Ross scoresheet were,

Roger Kingabyn and Doug David 2/1, Richard Brough and Neil Rodger

5/3, Gary Moyle and Peter James 4/2, and Derek Hale and Andrew Owen-

Smith, 2 down.

Ross Seniors soon got back to winning ways, under the captaincy of

Tim Rigden, they achieved a highly impressive 5 points to 3 victory

at a very windy Stinchcombe Hill Golf Club. Those able to keep their

drives on the fairways to record Ross wins were Nick Swan and Geoff

Baker 7/6, Brian Clouder and Keith Ray, and Cec Wheatstone and David

Whitehead, who both won 3/2, and Frank Gallagher and Graham Chick, 2/1.

Tim Rigden and Gerald Turner, and David Thrower and Peter Landau

enjoyed halved matches, leaving just John Church-Jones and Terry

Watts, 3/2, and Peter Lowe and Peter Metcalfe, 4/3, to return to the

clubhouse both windswept and winless.=
