THE Mayor of Ross-on-Wye has been keeping the town informed of his progress towards his goals of becoming a 5k runner, all for a good cause.

Cllr Ed O’Driscoll said: “Completed all week one training sessions for my ‘couch to 5K’ and just finished my first week two session.

“It was tough! Worked up a real sweat, will need to summon all kinds of will power over the next few weeks. Remember you can sponsor me, all money goes to the Community Development Trust. Great local charity.”

Speaking about the trust the mayor told the Gazette: “Many of you will be aware of the fabulous work they did during the pandemic helping to co-ordinate other voluntary groups to distribute food and medicine.

“They became a lifeline for many residents in the town. This work continues through ‘Ross Good Neighbours’ scheme, but they are involved in many other valuable activities across the town.

“Most recently they ran the Clover Project which provided a range of fabulous opportunities for residents to try a whole host of different activities.”

He added: “I will be following guidance from the NHS app as I endeavour to put my body through its paces. You’ll be able to follow my progress through regular social media updates on the mayor’s Facebook page facebook.com/row mayor

“And hopefully you might be inspired to encourage me in my challenge by sponsoring me for a few quid.”

Last week’s Gazette reported that Jane Roberts, who was awarded a BEM in the new year’s honours, is chair of Ross CDT and was instrumental is setting it up in 2019.
