PC Richard Barradale-Smith spoke to members of Ross-on-Wye Town Council on Monday, November 14th to make members aware of Safe Places Herefordshire, a list of places in the County where people with mental illness or learning disabilities can go, if they are feeling anxious, bullied or in danger.
PC Barradale-Smith said that there are many of these ‘Safe Places’ in Herefordshire towns, and in Ross-on-Wye, they are Cafe Eazz, Sue Ryder Charity Shop, Scope Charity Shop, Cancer Research Charity Shop, Ross Library and Information Centre, Weatherspoons and Caffè Eleganza.
He said that when vulnerable people go into the ‘Safe Places,’ they will carry a card, which says “I need help.’
The cards will have information about themselves and contact telephone numbers of family, carers or friends. The people who work at the Safe Places will be trained to help them and call someone for help on behalf of the distressed vulnerable person.
PC Barradale-Smith said “I think it’s a really good scheme and I want to try to promote its use and knowledge.”
