Ross Meeting Centre, which provides support for both people with mild and moderate dementia and their carers, is up and running.
The Centre, which launched eight weeks ago, provides support for both people with mild and moderate dementia and their carers.
“I don’t think I have laughed so much in a long time,” said Anne Parsons, one of the leaders of the RMC.
She continued:?“The Gazette provided a key role in getting the word out about the Centre, so that we have had a wonderful response for volunteers, bringing with them a wealth of key skills and personal experience.”
After the open day, they started with just a few participants but now, as doctors and dementia nurses have got to know about the Centre, referrals have increased. They like the person-centred approach at the Centre where both participant and carer come to socialise and participate in a variety of activities; including mental and physical exercise, reminiscence, crafts, song and music, outings and preparing lunch which is shared within the group.
One of the volunteers said:?“‘Having struggled to care for my husband, I know how important support systems are, and it is great to be able to help in this way.”
The Centre meets every Wednesday from 11am – 3pm at Christ Church on Edde Cross Street.
