Local farmers and growers raised more than £1,000 for charities when they took part in a big breakfast event at a Ross farm. Nearly 100 farmhouse breakfasts were served by NFU members Simon and Carol Brewer, at Benhall Farm, Wilton, on January 17th.

Members of the NFU Ross and Ledbury branch supported the breakfast and helped to raise £1,092.50 for charity. Organisers agreed that £430 from the proceeds should go to farming charity, The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, RABI, and a further £430 went to Help for Heroes.

The rest of the money, £232.50, went to help victims of the devastating Haiti earthquake.

NFU Herefordshire county chairman Lesley Whistance was at the event and said she was delighted with the sum raised and all the hard work put in by the volunteers. She said: "Our thanks must go to Simon and Carol for hosting such a successful event and the support was really good.
