The Hedgehog Festival Committee celebrated a successful year in Ross-on-Wye, at their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, October 29th.

At the AGM, members of the committee took a look back at the year and reminded themselves of some of the highlights. These included Walford school pupils Oscar night with a special showing of the 2016 Best Hedgehog Film; The Hedgehog Festival has delivered more than 20 educational nature and arts based events in 2016 to teach children and adults of all ages about preserving hedgehogs and their habitats, as well as raising their awareness about our town’s ancient links to the hedgehog.

Screen printing a lino cut of a hedgehog onto cotton bags has been popular at a number of events. Nearly 20 local businesses took part in the window display competition and the Mrs Tiggy-Winkle Trail was so well received it has been decided to repeat this next year.

The formal part of the AGM only took 15 minutes so there was a chance to look at the displays of the team’s achievements.

The Hedgehog Festival is continuing to forge links and ensure their programme feeds into the work of regional and national partners, which includes the Herefordshire Wildlife Trust (WildPlay!), Herefordshire Mammal (& Bat) Group, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and the People’s Trust for Endangered Species.
