Dear Editor

I am descended from the Prices of Brookend Street, then Queen Street, Ross. My great great grandmother was Eliza Haynes, wife of Rowland Price, 1814 - 1877.

Eliza was baptized in Ross-on-Wye on November 24th, 1813 according to Ross Parish Records, although some records state 1816 for her birth year.

Her parents were William Haynes/Hains and Esther Baynham (1787 - 1853) and they married in Ross on June 27th, 1813, six months before the baptism. Eliza married Rowland Price in Ross on October 11th, 1833.

What interests me enormously is that the Census returns of 1851, 1861 and 1871 state that Eliza was born in Builth Wells. Also the record for 1841 shows Eliza was not born in the County of Herefordshire.

I am also really interested in tracing William Hain’s line but have drawn a blank. I have found the Baynham line - going way back on Ancestry trees.

I have recently been in touch with someone from Ross Family History group who suggests I should ask your readers if anyone can help me. I want very much to establish my bit of Welshness. It is a long shot, but I am hopeful.
