The UK’s biggest digital inclusion campaign, Get Online Week, returns to Herefordshire this month.

Get Online Week, running from 15th to 21st October, aims to help people get started using the internet and computers.

Herefordshire Council and the Fastershire broadband project are offering a series of free training and drop-in sessions for local people across the county, with workshops taking place in Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Leominster, Ledbury and Kington libraries, as well as a 5-week course at The Kindle Centre in Hereford. These include sessions on how to search for information online, using smartphones and tablets, and sending emails.

Other organisations in Herefordshire are also providing computer training as part of Get Online Week, including Age UK in Ross-on-Wye, The HOPE Centre in Bromyard offering a Drop-In Computer Club, and Hereford’s The Skills Mill providing computer taster sessions.

Councillor Harlow, cabinet member for economy and corporate services responsible for the Fastershire project, said: “The internet offers so many opportunities, from keeping in contact with family and friends, to banking and paying your bills but it’s vital that people feel confident to go online.

“As Fastershire brings faster broadband to more parts of the county we want to ensure that everyone in the community can benefit and that’s why Fastershire and Herefordshire Council are supporting Get Online Week again this year.”
