Plans are well in hand for making Ross-on-Wye a Single Use Plastic Free Town, from campaigning for supermarkets to reduce unncessary packaging to a sponsored water fountain where people can refill their drinks containers. The next meeting for suporters of Make Ross-on-Wye Single Use Plastic Free will take place on Thursday, April 26th at the 7pm at the Town Council offices on High Street.
The inaugral meeting showed that there was a great deal of interest and support for the plan.
They found many busineses are already either reducing their single use plastics, or planning to do so as soon as it is possible. These included food shops which are changing to paper bags and cardboard boxes for takeaways, to the Town Council which is stopping using plastic cups for water.
The group decided to put together a simple list of achievable changes that can be carried out immediately, such as encouragining businesses to move away from using plastic straws. They are also planing to create items, such as window stickers, which businesses can display to show their support.
The group will also look into ways they can work on educating young people through local schools, guides, scouts or the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
