Dear Editor,

I would like to thank several people who have helped me over the last few days.

I have been doing a lot of driving recently and began to notice a knocking sound. On Saturday lunchtime, while driving slowly round Fiveways, the Dunelm delivery van behind me flashed me down. I pulled into Brampton Street and he leaned out of the window to tell me my wheel was coming off.

When I turned round an ’Angel’ in the shape of a foreign man appeared, and realising I needed help, got out the tools, jacked up the car, removed the wheel, inspecting it, sanding it and replacing it using the spare wheel nuts. Where the two missing ones that were the cause of the problem were no one knows.

It was hard work on an extremely hot day, but obvious that this kind gentleman knew what he was doing.

In case there was any further damage I took the car into Steve Bennett’s garage and it has all been inspected and is safe again. Very kindly, Steve did not charge me. I dread to think what might have happened if I had been driving at speed along the motorway.

So for all these kind people who have helped me - the van driver, the Angel and Steve Bennett - a huge thank you.
