Madam, Ross Rugby Club wishes to make clear that at the time of the 'Goldfish' incident reported widely by the media Mr Wooding was not, or never had been, a member of Ross-on-Wye R F C. He was, in fact, a well known and successful local footballer, as was frequently reported and photographed in your newspaper over many years. The action did not take place in, or near, any property either owned or connected with the Rugby Club. Mr Wooding has, very recently, been attending pre-season training at the club and fallen in line with its rules and regulations. The club has a Code of Conduct covering Senior Men, Ladies, Junior players and spectators and this is overseen by a responsible experienced committee. Whilst we do not condone the actions, the leading words 'A Ross rugby player' has caused us to defend that which we should not have to defend. We can assure anyone wishing to join Ross-on-Wye RFC, at any level, they can do so in the knowledge that it is a well run club which is caring of players and spectators and takes place in a healthy developing environment. Brian Harris, Club President
