In 1912 King George V was on the throne, World War I had yet to start and women were generally treated as second class citizens.

The changes in life for ordinary people since that year have been dramatic and one woman has lived through them all.

Hilda Bradley was born on September 9th 1912 and was thrilled to receive a birthday card on Saturday from HM the Queen congratulating her on her 105th birthday.

The card joined the many others Hilda has received from her family and friends at Whitchurch House where she now lives.

Hilda told the Ross Gazette that she did not feel living to 105 was much of an achievement, as all she had to do was wake up every morning.
