A PUB that has been in the same family ownership for 32 years, and for most of this time it has been run under management, is now up for sale.

The Plough Inn, located in Over Ross Street, has been closed since the start of the Covid Pandemic and didn’t reopen when the pandemic restrictions were lifted.

It remains well maintained and has undergone improvements during its closure with the owners stating that the property is now ripe for development by an energetic operator.

The pub dates back to the 17th Century and features a band across the bottom of gable with the inscription ‘The Plough, RD 1876’.

The entrance vestibule of the Grade II listed building boasts a large oak door which enters into an inner hallway via double glazed doors.

A small games room has feature stone walls, beamed wall and fireplace with keystone arch, while the main bar is split into three sections on different levels and also has exposed stone walls and an inglenook fireplace, with seating for around 60 customers. The snug also has a fireplace with antique brick surround.

The owner’s flat on the first floor has been upgraded in recent years.

The owner states that the business has always traded successfully as a traditional locals public house with games and teams and has not been reliant on food sales.

However, the sales particulars state there is no reason why, a commercial kitchen could not be established if the desire was to utilise the premises as a restaurant.

Under the terms of the current Premises Licence the business is permitted to retail alcohol between 11am and 1am Monday to Thursday, and 11am and 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Sundays 12 noon to 10.30pm.

The historic pub is up for sale with agents Sidney Phillips with an asking price of £365,000.
