A rural route linking two communities which looked set to be closed for months has reopened today.

The C1262 - Hoarwithy Bridge to Kings Caple road had been closed due to subsidence caused by a local badger sett.

With badgers and their setts strictly protected by law, work to repair the damage can only take place under licence. Due to the risk of trapping dependent cubs below ground during the badger breeding season, initial estimates suggested that the work could not take place until early summer.

However, by working closely with Natural England, Herefordshire Council and Amey have been able to come up with an interim solution that ensures the bridge can remain open to all traffic, with traffic lights in place.
