There was huge interest in the recent story published on the Ross Gazette website that McDonald's, the world’s largest chain of fast food burger restaurants, may be opening a drive-through in Ross-on-Wye.
On McDonald's website, it is stated that the fast-food franchise is planning to open 300 more new Drive Thrus in the UK over the next ten years. And when the Gazette reported this it became our most read story of the week.
A spokesperson for McDonald's told the Ross Gazette “We are always looking for new sites where we can invest and open new restaurants, creating jobs for local people. New restaurants bring positive investment to areas and typically provide at least 65 full and part-time jobs for the local community.”
There were comments both in favour of a new McDonald's and also opposed to more fast food outlets and asking about the location and planning permission.
The spokesman revealed that there are no immediate plans for a new restaurant, He said “Although Ross-on-Wye has been identified as an area of interest, we currently have no confirmed plans in place.”
