MADAM, With reference to Rob Elliot's letter (March 13th) castigating Morrisons, I have to take issue with him.

We operate Ross Livestock Market where Morrisons is one of our best customers, if not the best. Each week they regularly buy a load of cattle and also, when in season, a load of lambs. I have seen them buy as many as 108 finished cattle and almost 500 lambs in one sale.

Morrisons are the best supermarket supporters of British Agriculture as I believe they are the only supermarket selling 100% British fresh beef, pork, lamb and chicken. Furthermore, they are very selective in what they buy – they buy the best quality and are prepared to pay top prices for the best animals. Much of what they buy comes back into their local store in Ross.

This is why they have such a good name selling quality meat. They are a huge asset and support to British farmers, which sadly cannot be said for all supermarkets.
