MADAM, We would like to thank everyone who helped save the paviers in Wye Street. Our street is used by thousands of visitors every year, and to replace beautiful paviers with black tarmac was not an attractive option.
There was nothing wrong with the paviers. They were in perfect condition, and had never tripped anyone up – unlike some Ross pavements! We were lucky with our timely intervention, and the paviers were not put in the crusher. The quick, cheap option was unacceptable to us, and many other residents.
Special thanks for speedy advice and help must go to council organisations, and, in particular, to Councillor Bartrum, Councillor Cutter, Councillor Jarvis, and Adrian Blackshaw, not forgetting the Ross Gazette.
It just goes to show that if Rossians keep their eyes open and have the courage to complain loudly into receptive ears, they can effect change.
Let us hope that when the street is resurfaced, the public seats replaced and the unsightly gardens tended, Wye Street will attract many more visitors.
Julia Southan & Julie Morgan, Ross
