A TOWN centre Indian restaurant has been given a one-star food hygiene rating after inspectors found mouldy food, poppadoms covered in a bin liner, and onions stored in an alley.

An inspector visited Cafe Zam Zam in Ross on-Wye’s High Street in March and found two boxes of mouldy food, including tomatoes and lemons, and a separate mouldy pepper in a cooking pot.

The inspector also noticed that staff had not been washing themselves properly between handling raw and ready-to-eat foods and that staff uniforms were found to be in a dirty condition.

Additionally, the inspector noted failures in the restaurant's compliance with structural requirements, which included the hot countertop was covered in damaged lino while chopping boards were found to be heavily scored.
