Two weeks ago, the Ross Gazette published an old photograph which had been brought into the office by a local resident, Mike Ebert.
The photo, taken in 1957, was also put onto the Gazette website, and shared on social media pages. On the ‘You’re not from Ross-on-Wye (A Rossian) If...’ page on Facebook, lots of members of the group were able to share their memories.
Roger Price identified his mother, Edith Price, as the teacher in charge of the class. He said:?“Her son Anthony, my brother, is in the middle row, fourth from the left. I was also at the same school, but in a higher class and would help my Mum set out the folding beds in her classroom for the kids to have their afternoon siesta.”
Lots more members of the group remembered Mrs Price. Anne Wadeley wrote:?“Recognised Mrs Price, used to help her up at Ashfield.”
Ruth Cousins commented:?“Mrs Price was my first teacher in 1959.”
Lesley Cook identified Geoffrey Cook, as the child second from left, in the front row.
James Joe Griffin was able to identify a couple of the children in the picture. He write:?“Bottom right looks like Charlie Simms and next one in is Taffy James.”
