Madam, The figures produced by Andy Rogers for the rainfall in Ross may well have broken some records but not all. There are large variations in the Ross area and due to sensationalism in the press we easily forget the past.
For example in Bromsash the rainfall from Jan to June 2012 was 476 mm whilst in 2007 for the same period it was 546mm and in 1998 it was 533mm.
On Friday, July 6th Ross had 62.1 mm which together with 21.8 on the 7th gave a stated record of 83.9mm. Our memories are short as we had 73mm on July 20th, 2007 which, with the 16mm on the 19th makes a total of 89mm. Remember the dreadful floods around Gloucester and Tewkesbury in that year and times before when Safeway and other parts of Ross and surrounding areas were flooded?
All agree that we are having a dreadful summer but times have been as bad if not worse in year's past so lets stop all this doom and gloom and get on with enjoying life.
