Madam, At last Monday's Town Council meeting we were urged by Councillor Roberts to 'applaud' and vote for a motion about a grass roots organization that I had never heard of. I decided to find out something about them first so I voted against the motion. The five Councillors who Councillor Roberts says combined to defeat the motion did nothing of the sort. There could have been no discussion among us because we were in a formal meeting.
Looking through the 10:10 website provided no surprises until I got to the statement saying:?"We have bought a Jumbo Jet". It seems they are in the process of getting it cut into bits to be melted down to produce 10:10 name tags.
All this activity provokes some interesting questions. Why did they not get the tags made in plastic at a fraction of the cost? Did anyone take into account the amount of carbon being squirted into the air while all this cutting and melting is going on?
A lot of what is being preached at us is down to plain common sense. Before we took up residence in our present home I had it heavily insulated and double glazed, that was 38 years ago. Moving on to the church floodlights, the cost of £1000 per anum, ie £20 a week, is peanuts when you look at that lovely lit up spire - the best advert this town has ever had. I see no reason to object to LED bulbs being fitted if they fit into where the present bulbs are otherwise it would be best to wait until the new church hall development takes place. As for turning the lights out altogether because of the scaffolding that's nonsense. The work was due to be finished early this month but was delayed by the weather, things should now move on..
This business about global warming rumbles on. This week alone we were told that a university in East Anglia and a department of the Government's own met office have been fiddling their own research figures because things were not as hot as the boffins thought they should be.
