Jacqui Musto, a local woman, will be taking part in Macmillan’s Brave The Shave; Jacqui will have her head shaved at Lorraine’s Hairdressers in Ross-on-Wye on Friday, August 19th.
Jacqui told the Ross Gazette that Macmillan is a charity very close to her heart, both of her parents died from cancer a couple of years ago, and Jacqui herself also has a rare form of the illness. She has Multiple Myeloma, a cancer arising from plasma cells, a type of white blood cell which is made in the bone marrow.
Jacqui explained that she is at the lower end of the cancer spectrum for the time being. While cancer can be an extremely intimidating diagnosis to be given, her attitude is to get on with things, but she said Macmillan helped her to come to terms with it. The charity also helped her a great deal after the death of her parents.
She has regular appointments and check ups with Macmillan at Hereford Hospital, and has frequent blood tests to keep an eye on the cancer.
In the past, Jacqui has taken part in the Race For Life with friends, but she explained that she wanted to take part in Brave The Shave because it’s not a group activity. “It’s more personal to me,” she told the Gazette.
To sponsor Jacqui in her shave, please visit the website:?www.bravetheshave.org.uk. On the homepage of this website, there is an option to search for a ‘Brave Shaver’. If you type in Jacqui Musto, this will direct to her online donation page, and any money given here will go straight to Macmillan.
