The soon to be replaced leader of Herefordshire Council, Councillor John Jarvis assured the residents of Ross who attended a public meeting at the Larruperz Centre on Thursday that Ross Library will not close. He did however make it clear that savings had to be made and the Library could not continue to be run, or funded in the same way.

It was obvious that there is a great deal of support from local residents and Councillors, for the Library at this meeting, chaired by MP Jesse Norman, and the Council will be relying on local people, volunteers, to take over running it in a similar way to the asset transfer at Tudorville Community Centre.

Several residents had come to the meeting purely in protest that the Library could close but they also brought ideas for income generation such as a coffee shop, charging for computer services and making more use of the building.

There will be a full report of this meeting and the Herefordshire Council meeting on Friday in next week's Ross Gazette.
