The MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire, Jesse Norman, said that Theresa May has shown ’astonishing courage and resilience over many months in the most difficult possible circumstances’.

This comes after the announcement that there will be a vote of no confidence in the Prime Minister today, Wednesday, December 12th, between 6pm and 8pm, when all 315 Conservative MPs will vote, in a secret ballot, on whether they believe Ms May should continue.

If Ms May is forced out, it could see Brexit delayed and if the EU accepts Article 50, the exit period must be extended beyond next March because of the political turmoil.

Jesse Norman said: "I will be supporting her without hesitation this evening.

"A leadership election would be utter folly."

The result from the vote is expected to come sometime shortly after 10pm.
