When the Teddy Trust appeal to support children in Malawi and Syria reached John Kyrle High School, in Ross-on-Wye, students in Year 8 were quick to respond.

Weekly news quizzes and discussions helped inform the year group about world events and they were pleased to be able to do something to bring happiness to children, some of whom are in care and others suffering from trauma.

The phrase used by The Teddy Trust is “Never underestimate the healing power of a Teddy Bear”. This resonated with students, and led by Tom Evans of 8R, a large number of the year group willingly handed over a huge bag full of cuddly toys.

The Teddy Trust appeal plans to send 10,000 teddies to Malawi and Syria and this collection will certainly help them achieve this.

Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, said he was delighted that the students had supported this very worthy appeal and thanked his staff including Ali Ballantyne and Jim Morgan for their enthusiastic work with the students.
