A John Kyrle High School student represented Herefordshire in the UK Youth Parliament 2012 Olympics Consultations held in Birmingham.

Ricky Barlow, a Year 10 student received a personal invitation to attend the event which consisted of workshops and discussions around how young people could be involved in the build up to the 2012 Olympic Games and how the Games could benefit young people across the UK and the region.

Following the workshops, Ricky and other members of the Youth Parliament met Lord Sebastian Coe in a formal session to feedback their ideas to him. Ricky took the opportunity to discuss transport issues surrounding the Olympics with him.

Afterwards, Ricky said that he had enjoyed the opportunity to meet such a sporting legend and one of the leading figures in the planning of the 2012 Olympic Games and to also work with other members of the Youth Parliament.

Ricky's Head of Year at John Kyrle, Chris Elias praised Ricky for his involvement with both the Youth Parliament and Olympics Consultations. Mr Elias also added that Ricky's involvement with the Youth Parliament had begun through Ricky's excellent work as a Year Representative on the school council.
