Members of John Kyrle School Council, accompanied by Headteacher Nigel Griffiths and Assistant Headteacher, Mark Croad, were welcomed to the mayoral chamber last week by Councillor Harry Bramer.

Students sat around the table in the main meeting room and Councillor Bramer explained his role as Mayor. He then invited the students to take back to JKHS a proposal to consider supporting his nominated charity, as Mayor; Papyrus, an organisation focused upon the prevention of suicides of young people. Councillor Bramer challenged the students to consider fundraising opportunities and a lively discussion followed, with some imaginative suggestions being brought forward. Involvement in fundraising activities with the wider community is a key focus for all JKHS students, as they look to explore British Values both in and outside the classroom.

Mayor, Councillor Harry Bramer said, “I am delighted to have had the opportunity to meet with the School Council of JKHS to discuss various ways in which they may help me in raising awareness of Papyrus, the charity seeking to prevent young suicides. I was amazed at the variety and diversity of the ideas put forward at the meeting and I am sure that the full student council at John Kyrle will come forward with concrete suggestions to promote the awareness of this charity”.
