A Ross Gazette reader recently contacted the news desk to comment how pleased she was with pupils of John Kyrle High School when they were raising money for mosquito nets to send to Uganda.
Vanessa Gabb, a resident of St Owen’s Cross, near Ross-on-Wye, explained that during a recent trip to Morrisons, a pupil named Amber offered to pack her shopping at the check out. She said that Amber packed the bag beautifully; and she was really lovely to her.
She was especially touched when Amber, and another pupil offered to wheel her shopping out to her car and helped to put it all in the boot.
Ms Gabb commented that a lot of people can be critical of youngsters, but she said these pupils were both absolute sweethearts, and she said Amber and the other girl both treated her with a lot of kindness and respect.
She wanted to express her gratitude and admiration through the pages of the Ross Gazette.
Jennifer Costa Penny, the teacher at John Kyrle High School who is organising the fundraising activities for Uganda, told the Ross Gazette: "They (the students) raised £425 from the generous donations on that day. Money from all of their fundraising goes on mosquito nets at the local health centre in Namatumba, and projects at our link school Kisiki College Namatumba - which the pupils will take out with them when they visit in June.
"In total the group and pupils of JKHS have raised £1600 so far."
