A LARGE turnout of family and friends of year 11 pupils at John Kyrle High School witnessed a parade of vehicles bringing the students to their prom.
Among the procession were a range of classic cars including Minis, Beetles and Rolls Royces and traditional Land Rovers.

Students, dressed in all their finery, also arrived on the back of a trailer, rally cars, in a lorry, while three of them made use of mobility scooters.
Others also arrived at the school in open top cars and even on the back of motorbikes.

Harry Capener, celebrating his birthday also won the prize for the best dressed student with his top hat and cane.
Sarah Mountford, head of year 11 told the students that this prom may be the end of one chapter, but it’s the start of their next great adventure.

She added: “When I first saw the students in year nine, I never thought I’d see them in suits or elegant dresses. But here they are looking all grown up and glamourous.

“It’s been a privilege to have been the year head for this group, not because of their academic success, which has been phenomenal, but because of their resilience, their humour and the way each student has supported each other through everything school life has thrown at them. “Collectively the students have made me laugh, occasional made me question my life choices and made me cry with pride.

“They’ve tackled the lockdown, exams and school trips and all those little moments in between, making it a year group to remember. All of the students have come through it all with maturity and spirit and a real sense of community.

“This prom is a celebration of all the students’ hard work, their friendships and their achievements.”
