A doodle made during a university exam has evolved into the face of the Hedgehog Celebration in Ross this spring. When Jon Hitchman started doodling during his Business and Technology exam he thought the shape might become a mouse but did not pursue it.

Then about a year later, when watching a Spring Watch programme about wildlife in Britain, he was shocked to learn about the decline in hedgehog numbers. He remembered his doodle and thought the shape could be adapted into a hedgehog which could be used to explain to children how important these creatures are. Full story in this week's Gazette.
