Jules Barnes has continued her tradition of celebrating milestone birthdays by supporting her local Hospice and rasied over £1,000.

In 1993 Jules Barnes celebrated her 40th birthday with a big bash and donated all the money she raised from ticket sales and a raffle to St Michael’s Hospice.

Ten years later Jules got married on her 50th birthday and to celebrate she turned the wedding party into another St Michael’s fundraiser.

Having done the same again on her 60th Jules didn’t want to wait another 10 years so, to mark her 65th birthday, she teamed up with her partner Frankie Griffiths to organise an evening of music and merriment at The Plough Inn, Overross, Ross-on-Wye.

With help from pub manager, Kate Hazelwood, the couple booked local band, Tequila Mockingbird, and sold 150 tickets. Local shops also donated raffle prizes, and along with donations the evening of fun and laughter raised £1,217.50 for St Michael’s Hospice.

Jules said: “It’s become a bit of a tradition and, being a carer, I have known people who have died at St Michael’s Hospice and each time the care has been exemplary. I recently had the privilege of taking a tour of the new building in Bartestree and I saw for myself why people have such high praise for everything the Hospice does.”

Denise Bishop, Fundraising Administrator at St Michael’s Hospice said: “We’re so grateful to Jules and everyone who made the evening such a success. We look forward to an invite in 2023 to celebrate Jules’s 70.”
