This week the Gazette includes several pictures of residents and visitors keeping active in the beautiful surroundings of Ross-on-Wye.
These include a lovely photograph of two members of the highly acclaimed London City Ballet when they took the opportunity to rehearse by the riverside for their Ross performance. They were among the stars taking part in the Ross Festival in August 1996.
There is a picture of Peggy Luker with Ross youngsters which was taken in August 1995.
Adam Crate and James Stringer, two hotel assistants at the Royal Hotel, completed a five-mile race in drag to help raise money towards the £100 target set for the Ross hotel, by the then owners, Forte Heritage Hotels, for Cancer Research in August 1995.
A picture taken during the match between Ross Town ’93 and Hinton is also featured. Ross Town ’93 added the prestigious Charity Shield trophy to the season’s list of honours when they defeated Hinton 1-0 at an evening match in August 1995. Both teams had strong players in defence but Ross created more scoring opportunities.
David Hodges came close to scoring with a good header, but it was Graham Jones who was able to shoot past the keeper to score the only goal of the game.
The Gazette reported that the Ross Town ’93 committee members were very grateful to the Hereford officials who presented the trophies.
The Ross Gazette would love to hear from anyone who has any more information about these pictures. Please email [email protected]
